Almaty region, Taldykurgan , host the 3th edition of Gran Fondo Kazakhstan – Tour of Zhetysu , as 4th stop of Gran Fondo World Tour ® . With a new itinerary proposal, 80 km on hills section where the peloton challenge a warm weather of 34 C degrees and a fast race with a breakaway of current leader of world tour , the norwegian cyclist Jonas Orset. Second day host a city criterium won by the former pro rider Nikita Fedotowskikh.
Final results of 2 days event was with a top 3: Nikita Fedotowskikh 1st , Maxim Shtyrbulov 2nd and Jonas Orset 3th. With This result the norwegian rider take the leadership to the Korean previous leader Choe Geeniyong.
In Woman category, the Russian Cyclist Maria Kireyeva , dominate both days easly and take 1.000 poins for first position. but the Korean racer Song Jumi keep the leadership position with 1.100 points.
Gran Fondo Kazakhstan arrived to central asia to stay longer and expanding presence to other areas, searching new location for 2019 edition, already announced for 26 th May 2019 for a one day event with two distances 100 and 50 km , to become the biggest cycling event in Kazakhstan despite pro events or continental races.
Mr Serik Turdaliyev, Almaty Region Cycling Federation President , advanced on the 2019 agreement signature the intention to become more international for next year, and superate the 10 countries represented on present edition, including a tourism package for a week visiting best places in the country as national parks , Almaty or Astana country capital.
The event are duplicating participation year by year, then forecast a good position on asia gran fondo calendar during next years.
Next Stop for Gran Fondo World Tour ® will be on 9-10 june in Sea Otter Europe , (Girona-Spain) and one week later Styrkeproven 16-17 June in Oslo Norway.
